This site might have been called, "Meditations With
a Dip-Net." Its purpose is to meditate upon, as simply
as possible, a number of common fresh water animals that constitute pond life.
It is hoped that the meditations presented in this website will awaken
sufficient interest in pond life, and the many questions left
unanswered will arouse enough curiosity in meditating to cause
readers everywhere to conduct a few experiments
with their own ponds.
One does not need to be a zoologist in order to make
a study of pond life in a particular pond or stream.
To begin with, all that is necessary is a dip-net,
a few containers, a hand lens, and a sincere curiosity in pond life.
Fortunately, on the Pacific Coast, almost all the
animals mentioned in this website can be collected during
all seasons of the year in one form or another.
As a hobby, the study of fresh-wate rpond life has few rivals.
It offers plenty of fun, fresh air, sunshine, and
exercise. Its possibilities are just beginning to
be explored by amateur photographers.
