Frog tadpoles and salamander tadpoles look much alike in the early stages of their development. Both have tails and gills, but the salamander tadpole's gills are more noticeable and are retained longer than those of the frog tadpole, and the salamander does not lose its tail as it develops.
In a vivarium which contains a pool of water, some damp earth, a few stones, and some moss, frogs and salamanders can be kept alive and studied. It is a good plan to keep a record of your observations, for while you are watching aquatic animals in their own homes or in temporary homes which you have made for them, it is possible that you may discover some interesting fact which has never been recorded in any science book.
